California, Monteray Memorial Park Campground

Directions:

Veteran's Memorial Park may be reached by driving due west on Jefferson St. (up the hill) from the heart of Old Monterey, or by taking Highway 68 west from Highway 1 until you see a white adobe wall on the right side of the road with black letters that says "Skyline Forest". Turn right there, go to Skyline Drive and turn left. Skyline Drive will lead you right into the Park. Veteran’s Memorial Park is about 1 mile away from historic downtown Monterey. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is about 2 ½ miles from the park, and various beaches are within 2 miles.

Monterey Memorial Park Campground, is first-come, first-served, reservations are NOT available.  RV's up to 21 feet can be accommodated, No big-rigs allowed.  Primitive camping only.  Most spots are shaded.  Restrooms with showers and a RV dump station are available.  The park has a playground and hiking trails.  Camp spots are large and roomy.  Each has a fire ring and picnic table.  Wood burning was not allowed during our visit in 2022 due to dry brush conditions.  Keep an eye on your pets, there are mountain lions in the area.  ADA sites are available.  Group sites are also available.

Local Recreation:

The park is in a good location for visiting the sights in the local area including Pebble Beach and Monteray Bay.  Pebble Beach has the 17 Mile Drive.  It costs $10 to enter the private community of Pebble Beach and drive the 17 Mile Drive.  The highway runs along the beach and golf course with fantastic views.  Its a circular drive that ends where it started.  Its well worth the entrance price.

The Monteray Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row are located in the same general area and great for a days excursion.

There are also numerous golf courses in the area.

Downtown Monteray is located nearby where you will find beaches, restaurants, and shops.  Cannery Row is located nearby.
