Description

Oregon, Umpqua Dunes Campground.  This park was formerly the Discovery Point Resort and RV Park.  This is now a Douglas County Park

Directions:

From downtown Reedsport on Highway-101 go south on Highway-101.  In a few miles you will enter the small town of Winchester Bay.  Take Salmon Harbor Drive on the right.  Travel approximately half a mile on Salmond Harbor Drive and the campground entrance will be on the left side.

Umpqua Dunes Campground is open all year with approximately 60 RV or tent camp spots.  Big rigs to just about any size can be accommodated.  This is primarily an off-roaders campground for off-roading into the Oregon Sand Dunes.  The park has direct access into the dunes.  An ATV rental shop (Dune Country ATV, (541)271-9357) is also available inside the campground.  The park also has a small camp laundry and ice is also available.  Many camp spots have some shade.  The dunes in this area are quite spectacular with small lakes and pine forests.  Please see the dunes pictures in our photos tab.  The campground is in a good spot with services available in nearby Winchester Bay.  The small town has restaurants, markets, and fuel available.  

Local Recreation:

The campground is located within walking distance from Umpqua Beach.  Umpqua Beach is a large wide sand beach, perfect for beachcombing.  Driftwood washes up on the sand.  Please see our photos tab for pictures.  

Oregon Sand Dunes National Recreation Area.  The park has direct access into the Oregon Sand Dunes making it the perfect spot for off-roading.  Please see our photos tab for pictures of the sand dunes. 

Umpqua River Lighthouse is located near the campground.  There is a small museum there with some exhibits to look through.

Winchester Point and the Umpqua River is located just a short distance from the campground.  The Salmon Harbor Marina has a launch ramp and boat slips available.  Fishing is the most popular activity from this location.  Charter boats are available
