Comment

Twin Lakes Campground is located in the INYO National Forest.  95 seasional RV or tent camp spots are available in three different sections located around the lake.  RV's up to 42 feet can be accommodated in a limited number of spots.  Campbase recommends RV's no longer than 35 feet due to small camp roads.  Campground opening and closing dates are dependent on the weather.  Located at 8,000 feet, it snows at this campground every winter.  Heavy winter snows will delay summer opening dates.  The campground is located above 8,000 feet so allow yourself to become acclimated to the high altitude before doing physical activities.  Black bears do frequent the area so store all food properly.  There are some mosquitos in the early summer.  Night time star gazing is fantastic.  Cellular service is poor or un-available.

Things To Do:

The Devils Post Pile is a great day trip for most campers.  The treck to the entrance of the park passes the Mammoth Mountain Ski Lifts.  There is an entrance gate where a small fee is charged.  Once inside the park, the road to the Post Pile is long and narrow.  Campbase does not recommend RV's on this single lane and narrow road leading to the Post Pile.  Once to the location of the Post Pile there is a short walk to see the sights.  Quite interesting really.

The Mammoth Mountain Ski Area has summer mountain biking available.  The ski lifts take riders and bikes up to drop riders off at different riding locations.  Riders then take winding paths to the bottom of the mountain.  Its quite fun.  Bike rentals are available at the mountain.

The paved bike paths in Mammoth are quite extensive.  Some paths lead from Mammoth to Twin Lakes and beyond to Lake Mary.  Its best to take this ride in the down hill direction.  Catch a ride on the Mammoth Trolley up to Lake Mary.  From there the paved bike path can be ridden down hill back to the town of Mammoth.
