Description

Maine, Smugglers Den Campground is approximately 30 miles from the intersection of I-95 and I-395.  Transition from the I-395 to Route 1A.  Route 1A is a single lane highway in most places however, it's sufficient for larger RV's.

Directions:

Follow Route 1A East of Bangor, East toward Bar Harbor.  In Ellsworth, transition to Route 3, also towards Bar Harbor.  Upon crossing onto Mount Desert Island stay right and transition to Route 102 toward Southwest Harbor.  In approximately ten miles the campground will be on the right.  If you get to Southwest Harbor then you have gone to far.

Comment

Smugglers Den Campground is open from May through October with approximately 100 Cabins, Tent sites, and RV sites.
The campground is near Southwest Harbor where there are shops, markets, and restaurants.  The campground is in the area of Acadia National Park.  It's a good location for larger RV's because the campground has full hookups and easier access than the National Parks campgrounds.

Reservations can be made at the parks website, by email, or by phone with the information provided here.  Reservations can be made one year in advance.

The free Acadia National Park shuttle bus (Island Explorer) services the campground and many of the other campgrounds in the area.  There are seven different bus routs available.

Depending on the time of year, many areas in Maine may have ticksbees, and mosquitos.  Due to the potential problems posed by these insects it's best to arrive prepared should these insects become a nuisance.  Campbase recommends screen enclosuresrepellantsbug zappers, and mesh net hats.  Please click these links to see our recommended items.
