Description

California, San Clemente State Beach has easy access from Interstate-5.

Located on the beach in south San Clemente easily accessible from the I5 freeway.  The park has two large camping areas.  The north campground RV spots all have full hookups.  The south side camp spots are dry camping.  All spots have a fire ring, grill, and picnic table.  This campground is an easy getaway for everyone living in Orange County.  It's really big city camping down on the beach.  Some spots have shade trees.  The Amtrack train runs between the campground and the beach so, there is some train noise.  Big rigs to approximately 30 feet can be accommodated.  

Directions:

South bound on Interstate-5 in San Clemente, exit at Avenida Califia.  At the exit stop sign, go straight.  The campground entrance is the second driveway on the left side of the road.

The old downtown area is approximately a mile outside the park entrance.  Across the freeway are several interesting restaurants including Big Helyns Bar.  There is also a beach trail over to the San Clemente Pier and restaurants.  Near the San Clemente Pier is Casa Romantica.  The casa was built by the founder of San Clemente in 1927.  Its a great place to spend some time and see the views.  Bicycle rentals are available across the freeway at San Clemente Cyclery.  Its located about 200 feet outside the park.  Wood is available for sale at the front park entrance.

Two group camp spots are available.  Group sites support 50 people and 10 cars.

The park has planted milkweed to attract the monarch butterfly during its migration south to Mexico.

Approximately a mile from the campground you will find Tommy's Restaurant.  It's good people and good eats for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  See the picture on the right side of this page.

Downtown San Clementy is approximately two miles from the park.  It's a nice place to walk and visit the shops.  I spent the morning on Avenida Del Mar and had a great time walking through the shops and restaurants.

Don't miss the San Clemente Golf Club, it's a very nice golf course.
