There are many different routes into the campground, the following is just one.

From Highway 99 or I-5, Take I-80 (also called I-305).  Proceed west for just a few miles.  Exit at Lincoln Highway and turn Left.  Proceed under the freeway and take the first left onto Lake Road.  The campground is approximately one block up on the right side.

SAC West RV Park and Campground was formerly known as Sacramento West/Old Town KOA.  The new campground has cabins, tenting and RV sites.  Full hookups and pull through spots are available.  Camp roads are paved and most camp spots have some shade.  The RV park has a pool that was very popular during our visit.  Bicycles can be rented at the park.  There is a small camp store that had all the essentials.  Extended stay is available.  The Karata Grill is located at the park.  The grill serves breakfast and burgers.  Here is a link: Karata Grill.  We were not able to eat there but, it looks really good to us.

Local Recreation:

Campbase likes the American River Bikeway.  It's a 32 mile, paved bike trail that goes all the way to Folsom Lake.  Pickup the trail near the downtown area.

The Cal Expo State Fair can be quite a bit of fun.  There is also a Raging Waters Water Park at the fair.

Boat rides and tours on the Sacramento and American Rivers.
