Description
Arizona, Homolovi State Park Campground. The state park entrance is just one mile from Interstate-40. The campground is approximately Two miles from the freeway.
Directions:
Exit Interstate-40 at Highway 87 and proceed North approximately one mile. Turn left at the Homolovi State Park entrance. Proceed approximately half a mile and turn left at the campground sign. The campground will be down a few blocks on the right side.
Comment
Homolovi State Park Campground is open all year with 53 RV and tent camp spots. The campground and park are quite a gem. The campground has full hookups, restrooms, and showers for just $20 per night. In addition to being a great park it's also just three miles from Winslow. Meteor Crater and the Petrified Forest National Park are approximately 20 miles.
The park has over 300 Indian archaeological sites. Two sites are easily accessible. Homologous 1 and 2 can be seen just a few feet of the road and are easily accessible. There is a gift shop and information center, inside the park, approximately one mile from the campground. Most camp spots are back in spots. Pull through spots are not available however, pull-a-round spots along the road are available. Most spots are very large and level. RV water at the camp site is not available during the winter. WiFi is not available however, cellular service is excellent. Data cellular service is excellent.
Reservations are available at the state parks web site provided above or by first-come, first-server. Open spots are usually available.
A laundry is not available.
There is a Flying J Fuel stop just one mile outside the park. It has a small market and restaurant.
Things to do in the area:
The town of Winslow is just two short miles from the campground. It's a great place to sight see and take pictures. For photographers, there is a large number or derelict buildings to photograph.
Visit Meteor Crater, there is an information center there and hourly tours of the crater.
The National Petrafied Forest is just a short distance from the campground. The petrified trees are truly amazing.
Route 66 road touring.
Bicycling on the parks roads is excellent with limited or almost no traffic. Big tire bicycles are best due to large cracks in the road.
