Desert Dunes of Maine Campground is open May through October with 35 RV and tent sites.  Maximum RV length is 45 feet.  The campground is located in a forested area with plenty of shade.  There is easy access from the I-295, the campground is just two miles out Desert Road.  There are no amenities outside of the campground for approximately two miles.  The closest amenities are in Freeport.

Make sure you take the Sand Dune Tour.  Some very interesting information about how the sand dunes were formed through over farming and soil erosion.

There are several things to see and do at this campground including sand dunes, sand painting, fossil panning, and a barn museum.

There are also nature trails through the Forest and dunes.

Note:  Depending on the time of year, many areas in Maine may have ticksbees, and mosquitos.  Due to the potential problems posed by these insects it's best to arrive prepared should these insects become a nuisance.  Campbase recommends screen enclosuresrepellantsbug zappers, and mesh net hats.  Please click these links to see our recommended items.
