Description

California, Buttercup Campground, Imperial Sand Dunes, is located on the south side of Interstate-8.

Directions:

On Interstate-8, Just West of Yuma, Arizona.  Take the Grays Wells Road exit and go left or South on the under freeway connector.  In just one block turn right onto Grays Wells Road.  The ranger station and camping area is right there.

Buttercup Campground, Imperial Sand Dunes is located on the southern tip of the dunes.  The major part of the Imperial Sand Dunes stretches northward from this point.  This is open, dry camping.  Pick a spot out near the dunes.  Be cautious to not camp in deep sand and not near dune buggy trails.  The Buttercup camping area is near the Buttercup Ranger Station.  Pay your fee at the ranger station.  It's a weekly fee.  You can't pay for just one day, wine week is the minimum.  There are no services near Buttercup so, bring everything you will need including fuel, water, and food.  

The primary session for camping and off-roading in this area is October through March.  The rest of the year is generally to hot and the heat drives campers out of the area.  

The areas southern border is Mexico, just three miles south of the Buttercup Ranger Station.

A permit is required for off roading from October 1 through April 15.  $50 if purchased on site and $35 if purchased early on-line.  Purchase ar www.blm.gov/ca/isdra   All off road vehicles must also have a whip antenna with flag.  

Pets are allowed but not recommended due to loud and fast moving machines. 

Burning pallets or any wood with nails in it is prohibited.  Glass bottles are also prohibited.
