Description

California, Black Rock Canyon Equestrian Campground, Joshua Tree National Park, lies among one of the thickest Joshua tree forests in Joshua Tree National Park.  Its location on the parks northern perimeter makes it a popular rest stop for hikers, birders, horseback riders and RV campers.

Direction:
Take Interstate 10 to Route 62 into the town of Yucca Valley. Turn south on Joshua Lane and follow signs to campground, about five miles from the turn.

If coming south on Highway 247, go straight across Highway 62 and continue onto Joshua Lane. There will be no sign for the park as you cross Route 62.

Comment

Black Rock Canyon Equestrian Campground is an equestrian only campground with 20 available spots.  The equestrian campground allows almost camping vehicles of almost any size.  Big rigs are ok.  The campground is a large open area with picnic tables and fire rings.  Shade is not available.  Nearby, is the standard Black Rock Canyon Campground.  The campground has restrooms, drinking water and a RV dump station.  Register for the equestrian campground on line at recreation.gov or at the rangers office near the campground.  

Most cellular services are good from this location.

Firewood and Ice can be found in Yucca Valley at the Walmart.  The Walmart is located 5 miles north of the campground.  

Reservations are available through Recreation.gov.  

Note:  Summer tempratures run into the 100's at this campground.  The best time to visit is the fall, winter, or spring.  

Local Recreation:

The California Riding and Hiking Trail starts at the campground.  It's a 35 mile trail for horsebacking and hiking.
