Description
California, Barton Flats Campground, San Bernardo National Forest. The campground is located in a remote area.
Directions:
There are a few ways to get to the campground. From Big Bear City go south on Highway-38 for approximately 20 miles. The campgrounds entrance will be on the right side.
From the town of Mentone go east on Highway-38. After approximately 20 miles the campground entrance will be on the left side. For larger RV’s the entrance from Mentone may be a better access path. Note that the road can be narrow and steep at points. Elevation climb to the campground is approximately 5,000 feet. Big rigs can access this area however, it is challenging for the vehicle. Make sure your brakes and tires are in excellent condition.

Note: Use caution when entering or leaving the campground. Highway-38 winds past the campground and visibility down the highway is limited.

Barton Flats Campground is located in the San Bernardino National Forest. Reservations are available through www.recreation.gov. Camp spots not reserved are available for one night. This is a beautiful, peaceful spot with large pine trees towering overhead. It’s a bit remote but, that’s what makes it great. There are no services available near the campground. The closest location for services is in Big Bear City. RV’s up to approximately 35 feet can be accommodated however, smaller RV’s are better suited to this location. Bear boxes are provided at each camp spot. Bears and snakes are in the area so use caution. The primary activity from this campground is hiking and wildlife viewing. The campground does have cellular service for some carriers. RV hookups are not available. The maximum stay limit in the campground is 14 days. Double wide camp spots are available.
The campground is seasonal being open from 3/30 through 11/11.
