Essential Camping Gear To Improve Any Trip In The Great Outdoors
Humans have come a long way from camping outdoors out of necessity, when they used pelts, sticks, branches and animal skins to keep the elements at bay. Now, most people camping in nature do so out of choice, for enjoyment, relaxation, hunting, or to reconnect with nature and introduce their kids to the great outdoors.
While in the distant past, technology to help us keep safe was basic at best and many a night spent outside bore the risk of hypothermia, injury or even death, now thanks to advances in science we can safely enjoy camping trips in most weathers.
What gear can't we do without?
It is important to recognize which items will make our trip more enjoyable, and what items can be left behind - after all, we can’t take our entire household camping, and should instead concentrate on bringing the essentials.
In the absence of our usual four walls, and mod cons such as central heating and warm water, it is important to stay cozy and dry. Surprisingly, more people die from exposure in the warmer months than in the winter, so knowing what will keep you safe and warm even in the summer is essential. Knowing ways to prevent campsite heat loss are important for any camper to be familiar with to make for an enjoyable trip.
Items such as a decent sleeping bag, ground mat and tent are really non-negotiable, so how about other everyday technology we have come to rely on?
Connected - to nature?
The average person has become reliant on their mobile phone for many everyday tasks. We use our phones for checking the weather, looking at a local map to find our bearings, navigating our surroundings, finding information on how to start a fire or recipes for a meal, as well as checking in on friends and family.
So what is the best way to ensure we stay connected even when camping?
There are those who may decide to keep their phone and other tech devices off whilst camping, so as to not interfere with the experience of unspoilt nature, but it’s still a good idea to keep your phone with you in case of any emergencies.
You may consider a solar charger for your phone - those don’t take up much room in your luggage, can be fixed to your backpack whilst hiking and ensure you don’t lose connectivity even in off-grid, remote spots and even without your car.
Keep communicating
One of the best ways to learn about useful and essential versus nonessential technology and equipment for camping is to ask fellow campers, either online or once you get to your campground.
As long as you ensure you are equipped with the right amount of layers to ward off the elements, many additional items are nice to have but not essential for your survival.
New Training: Automating AWS Storage using Python
This intermediate training video, 14 videos, by SPOTO trainer Trevor Sullivan, covers the knowledge cloud specialists require to use Python commands for automating your use of S3 buckets.
This is the new AWS training.
AWS storage is a complex field that requires you to be proficient in many tasks, including backing up your data, increasing AWS storage amounts, and volume resizing. However, just knowing how to do these tasks is only part of a cloud specialist’s career. You will need to be able to automate these tasks in order for your career to flourish.
Python is a popular, easy-to-use, and all-purpose programming language. It allows you to create repeating tasks and routines in your AWS account, which takes many repetitive tasks off your plate. This Automating AWS Storage and Python training will make your job easier.
